DESIGNwith is a values based creative collective revealing connections seen, unseen and unforeseen; redefining the design process and seeks to make design transparent. Our exhibition will showcase DESIGNwith's furniture collection along with making a call to designers-at-large to answer the question: how do we democratize design through using accessible materials in furniture making?

Building on the approach inspired by Enzo Mari and the Ishinomaki Laboratory, the furniture pieces are designed with sustainability, modularity and with affordance as the design brief; resulting in easy-to-build and understand outcomes. Materials are restricted to dimensional lumber and readily available fasteners all with goal of being producible for anyone by anyone. This can be a way to “level” the design field by flattening the teaching and learning curve through exhibiting the design and making process with simple materials and processes. This exhibition will invite the public to consider democratizing design through accessible furniture.
