Learn by Making

Participants will explore eco-friendly materials, ethical production, and design strategies that reduce waste and extend product life. They'll learn sustainable alternatives like using recycled materials, designing for disassembly, and incorporating repairability. Through hands-on experience, participants will craft their own personalized sneaker prototype and deepen their understanding of the circular economy’s role in footwear design

Rethinking Sneaker Design

Developed by Nelson Silva, a Toronto-based footwear expert, this workshop simplifies traditional shoemaking by rethinking tools and materials. By cutting costs and complexities, we make sneaker design more accessible. Participants will use reclaimed materials and modular designs to create their own prototypes.

This workshop is perfect for beginners, hobbyists, or anyone interested in sustainable design and footwear innovation.

The workshop will be held in our lab, offering a collaborative and accessible environment with access to professional tools and materials.

Materials Included

All necessary materials are provided, including reclaimed fabrics and soles provided by our local partner and manufacturer, Mellow Walk Footwear. Participants don't need to bring anything—just their creativity.

Workshop Outcome

By the end of the workshop, participants will have a completed custom sneaker prototype to take home, showcasing their unique design and sustainable craftsmanship.
